Remote Learning Started as a Necessity. Now It’s the Future of Education

Why Remote Learning Is the Future of Education

Why Remote Learning Is the Future of Education

The pandemic gave rise to online classes, courses, and training. Remote learning is a new norm that won't end when the pandemic does. Click here to learn why.

Keyword(s): remote learning

Online learning has grown in popularity as a conventional method of learning since the onset of the coronavirus. Although students experienced an immediate learning curve when the world shut down and education transitioned to digital, they quickly have adapted to the "new normal".

Keep reading to learn more about how remote learning opportunities have evolved in recent years.

Evolution of Remote Learning

The COVID-19 pandemic forced schools worldwide to shut down. When social distancing and stay-at-home orders were implemented, over 1.2 billion kids were displaced from their traditional education systems.

Because education remained a priority for many countries, a system of remote learning quickly emerged.

Public and private schools were challenged to adapt to an online forum. Because of the imminent need, many schools quickly rose to the occasion by providing technology and training to students and teachers to make online learning possible.

Prior to the pandemic private and public virtual schools were used as accessories for traditional education or an opportunity for homeschooled children to access a variety of courses. The virtual learning that has taken place during the pandemic has attempted to socialize children as well.

Are Online Courses Effective?

Researchers indicated that students only retain 8 to 10% of the information given in a traditional classroom setting. Students have been able to learn faster online allowing them to retain 25 to 60% of online classroom instruction.

This retention job can be attributed to the lack of blank space in an academic day online. Because everything is so focused on the spotlight teacher e-learning requires 40 to 60% less time to be absorbed by students.

The greatest contrast in education for younger age groups is the structure of a classroom setting. Young students are easily distracted and if they are in a room with a lot of stimuli can be redirected from the online classroom.

Because students have been submerged in a society based around digital learning they are much more likely to carry positive digital learning habits.

Benefits of Online Learning

Online courses are designed to mirror that of a traditional classroom. However, there are certain features that make online learning more accessible and manageable than in a traditional classroom.

Keep reading to learn all about the benefits of online learning.

Go at Your Own Pace

When it comes to post-secondary education it’s important that you have the opportunity to build your own schedule. As different life commitments begin to startup you need to be able to have the flexibility to manage your time.

Additionally, online materials give you the opportunity to revisit past material and stop lectures to perform additional research to better organize your notes in real-time. This allows you to ensure that you master the material before moving on.

In a traditional classroom, the inability to keep pace is often overlooked because there is a need for the teacher to keep to a firm schedule.

Ability to Build Out Your Schedule

Because online courses offer no set class times there is flexibility to help you build out your own schedule. Students that have been emerged in online educational classes have superior time management skills.

This is something that employers value later in life. Online classes are designed to ensure that you are attending meetings and keeping a productive work log in building out your professional résumé.

Increased Reliance on Communication Skills

An online environment requires that you be proactive in communicating in collaborating. As you work with others you’ll develop critical leadership skills that can be used later in life.

For many students, it’s much less daunting to communicate behind a screen or text box. This can actually lead to a potential rise in classroom participation and simplify collaborative projects.

One of the most common platforms for virtual communication collaboration is online discussion boards. This allows an individual to publish their thoughts clearly and then filtered through responses to engage in constructive dialogue.

Expanded Abilities on Technological Platforms

By transferring the world to online learning during the coronavirus, we were able to equip students with the vital project management and communications tools of today. Students were able to use zoom, slack, Trillo, Dropbox and become much more proficient on other online applications.

Accepting students with these hard skills allows them to be more prepared and marketable as they enter the workplace.

Educational Opportunities Must Continue to Evolve

Because students have been exposed to these methods of learning, they have learned to think innovatively and effectively research. In recent years, students have had to be superior on remote learning, and they in fact would thrive in online courses.

We must continue to expose students to virtual online opportunities so that they can maintain proficiency before they enter the modern workplace.

Why You Should Train in Cloud Computing Architecture

Why You Should Train in Cloud Computing Architecture

Why You Should Train in Cloud Computing Architecture

Why should you study cloud computing architecture? Find out how you could benefit from becoming a cloud architect today.

Keyword(s): cloud computing architecture

Training in a new field or learning advanced new skills can be an excellent way of improving yourself or finding a new job. But these days, with so many different courses (particularly in tech), choosing the right course for you is hard.

One such training course that people rarely consider, but should, is in cloud computing architecture.

We're going to explain what exactly cloud computing architecture is as a field. We're then going to highlight some of the major benefits of training in cloud architecture today.

What is Cloud Computing Architecture?

Cloud computing architecture is a relatively new sub-field in the technology industry. As you might expect by its name, it specifically concerns the design, monitoring, creation, and updating of cloud computing software.

Put simply, a cloud computing architect is in charge of designing and implementing all aspects of cloud solutions. Their role is therefore varied and involves a lot of different tasks.

These can include:

  • Designing the cloud infrastructure itself
  • Creating cloud architecture templates
  • Designing the security infrastructure of a cloud
  • Designing the application structure for cloud software
  • Monitoring and updating cloud software solutions
  • Planning how cloud software can improve other aspects of technology

These are just some of the key tasks that are expected of a dedicated cloud architect. There are also some crossover skills involved in the role, most of which revolve around software development and IT design.

Though you'll also need to build your leadership and communication skills, particularly if you're hoping to become a lead cloud computing architect.

On a course, you'll learn all of this, including the different types of cloud architecture. You'll also learn the difference between hybrid cloud architecture and private cloud architecture.

Now that you know what a cloud computing architect's role is, let's go into why you should consider training as one today.

The Cloud Continues to Grow in Importance Across Several Industries

In 2021, almost everyone is using the cloud, from businesses to individuals.

In fact, an estimated 94% of all businesses currently use some form of cloud computing in their operations. Cloud adoption rates are higher than they've ever been before, which evidences the importance the cloud plays in technology today.

This continued demand means there's also continued demand for cloud-specific technology roles. The concept of a cloud computing architect position may not have even existed around 10 years ago.

But nowadays companies in various sectors may employ an entire team to handle their cloud computing efforts. There are also massive tech companies that specialise in providing cloud computing solutions for other entities.

That means that you'd be training in a field that continues to play a huge role in the technology sector overall. When it comes to tech, there can be fears that you're training in an area that may become outdated over time.

But all current statistics seem to show that the cloud is here to stay. That can work wonders for your job security and makes training in cloud architecture an attractive proposition in 2021.

It Can Diversify Your Skillset When Compared With Your Peers

If you're job hunting in tech, you'll already know how important your skillset is. These days there's a large amount of overlap between different technology skills.

These include coding, software development, cloud development, frontend design, backend design and so much more. If you want to make it big in the tech world, it can help to make your CV stand out from the crowd.

Cloud architecture is perfect for this since it's still a relatively new technology field to specialise within. It can be a great way of showing how you differ from others who are currently within the same job market as you.

Not only that but it's a skill that can benefit other roles or positions. Knowing about the cloud can't hurt if you're looking to work in technology in 2021.

The more understanding you have of other areas of technology, the better you are positioned to take on a senior role in the future.

Cloud computing architecture can become an essential new string to your bow.

Cloud Architect Roles Are Highly Paid Positions Across the Globe

You should never do anything just for money, but it helps that cloud architects can enjoy sizable salaries for the job they do.

According to Glassdoor, cloud architects can expect to receive an annual salary of around $135,000, if they're working in America.

This is just the average amount, however. Glassdoor also notes that the annual salaries of cloud architects can go up as high a $200,000 or more.

It's important to note that these salaries are for positions in America, where tech jobs are notoriously very high paying. But the reality is that trained cloud architects are in demand all across the globe.

If you're trained, this can be a transferrable skill that can help you to find a job in an entirely different country. This can provide you with life experiences that are truly priceless.

Cloud understanding, as mentioned above, is also a personal skill that can help you achieve other roles in tech should you be interested in them. These can be similarly high paying, particularly in America and other countries where tech roles are heavily valued.

The price you'll pay to train as a cloud architect will be vastly outweighed by the annual salary you can hope to achieve once you've qualified. That makes it a reliable investment both in you, your skills, and your future.

Where Can I Find Out More About Training as a Cloud Architect?

You should now know what positions a cloud computing architecture consists of. You should also know what the many benefits of training in cloud computing are today.

If you've been convinced, there's no better place to train than here with the Architecture Center.

We provide a number of different courses in tech, including those related to the cloud. Take a look through our list of training courses and find out what interests you today.

TOGAF vs ArchiMate: What's the Difference?

TOGAF vs ArchiMate: What's the Difference?

TOGAF vs ArchiMate: What's the Difference?

Trying to compare and contrast ArchiMate and TOGAF is tricky--but that doesn't mean there's nothing to be gained from trying. Here's what you should know.

Keyword(s): archimate

76% of businesses surveyed are starting, restarting, or renewing their enterprise architecture practices. Is your organisation part of this trend? Are you considering TOGAF or ArchiMate certification to improve your enterprise architecture practice but aren't sure which one to choose?

ArchiMate and TOGAF both offer you practical benefits. If you think they seem similar, you're not alone. Many enterprise architects wonder about the difference between TOGAF and ArchiMate.

Find out more about the similarities and differences between ArchiMate and TOGAF. You'll be better prepared to pick the right certification course for you.

ArchiMate vs TOGAF

TOGAF and ArchiMate are enterprise architecture (EA) standards. Enterprise architecture is the process by which businesses standardise and organise their IT infrastructure to align with business goals.

EA supports an organisation's digital transformation. It promotes IT growth and the modernisation of IT as a department.

One reason TOGAF and ArchiMate seem similar is that The Open Group manages and maintains both standards. The Open Group is a global consortium that develops vendor-neutral technology standards and certifications.

Both TOGAF and ArchiMate follow the basic concepts of EA that the ISO 42010 standard defines. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an independent international organisation. It develops standards to ensure the quality, safety, and efficiency of products, services, and systems.

ISO 42010 distinguishes between the architecture itself and the documentation of that architecture. It recommends what an architecture description should include, but it doesn't specify the form it should take.

ArchiMate and TOGAF are both enterprise architecture standards. They don't fulfil the same purpose, though.

As we'll see, TOGAF deals with the architecture itself while ArchiMate provides a means of describing it.

What Is TOGAF 9.2?

TOGAF is an architecture framework. Perhaps more accurately, it's a framework of frameworks that describes elements of EA practice. It helps businesses align IT goals with overall business goals.

The most detailed content is the Architectural Development Method, which explains how to develop architectures. TOGAF has four architectural domains:

  • Business architecture
  • Applications architecture
  • Data architecture
  • Technology architecture

Business architecture includes business strategy, governance, and organisation. It describes how the adapt existing processes.

Applications architecture provides a method for structuring and using application systems in alignment with business goals. Data architecture defines how to structure data storage, management, and maintenance.

Technology architecture describes the hardware, software, and infrastructure a business needs to meet its goals.

TOGAF 9.2 keeps the main features and structure of the previous version of the standard. The updated version has better guidance and an improved structure. The editors have also removed obsolete content and corrected errors.

What Is ArchiMate 3.1?

ArchiMate is a modelling language. It helps enterprise architects to describe, analyse, and visualise the relationships among different architecture domains. ArchiMate provides a simple and uniform structure for describing the contents within domains and the relationships between them.

ArchiMate functions like an architectural drawing in traditional building architecture. Architectural diagrams show aspects of the construction and use of a building. In a similar way, ArchiMate offers a common language for describing the construction and operation of functions like:

  • Business processes
  • Organisational structures
  • Information flows
  • IT systems

ArchiMate supports high-level modelling that focuses on the essence of an organisation.

ArchiMate 3.1 includes a few minor but useful updates. One of the most helpful is a new value stream element. A directed notation for association and more formalised rules for deriving relationships are also new.

What's the Difference Between TOGAF and ArchiMate?

The differences between TOGAF and ArchiMate make them well-suited to work together. Many senior practitioners use TOGAF and ArchiMate as parts of a combined EA practice.

TOGAF describes the process of creating and managing enterprise management frameworks. It doesn't include a specific modelling language structure. ArchiMate provides that language.

TOGAF requires practitioners to document the baseline, transition, and target architectures. Architects express stakeholder concerns in ways that show relevant aspects of the architecture.

ArchiMate is a graphic language with standard shapes and colours. It graphically presents the different views in the TOGAF architecture.

TOGAF architectures have many relationships, which can make it challenging to maintain consistency. Using different notations compounds this difficulty.

ArchiMate relationships have a simpler structure. They have better support for relationships between domains.

To sum up, TOGAF shows the key tasks in the process of developing architectures. ArchiMate doesn't describe how to develop architectures. It offers a standardised way to document descriptions of those architectures.

ArchiMate vs TOGAF Training

Like the standards themselves, training programs for ArchiMate and TOGAF have some similarities. You can find training courses for ArchiMate and TOGAF online. These courses prepare you for the examination to become ArchiMate or TOGAF certified.

You don't need any prerequisites for the first level of either program.

Some programs have accreditation from The Open Group. Accredited course providers undergo assessments of their course, the delivery methods, and the organisation. In addition, all accredited trainers include the examination fee with the course fee.

The ArchiMate training program typically takes two days. TOGAF takes two days for a single level or four days for levels 1 and 2 combined.

Both training programs are available as self-paced e-learning courses or live online with an instructor. The live courses give you more variety in the working methods.

They incorporate multimedia presentations, group exercises and discussion, practical workshops, and case studies. They also have online practice tests to prepare for the certification exam.
